The usage of blood in Korea increases day by day as a life-saving procedure for the injured and patients in various clinical setting.
The most frequent diseases can be transmitted by transfusion are viral hepatitis, malaria, and syphilis
but several other viral diseases can be easily transmitted by fresh blood transfusions.
The prevention of these transfusion-induced virus infections were reviewed.
The hemolytic transfusion reaction, infected blood transfusion, air embolism, allergic reaction,
febrile reaction, pyrogen reaction, circulatory overloading and citrate intoxication were reviewed
with their clinical features and prevention.
Recognition of these reactions is exceedingly important and appropriate treatment may prevent disastrous consequences of therapeutic errors.
Avoidance of blood usage with no definite indication were emphasized.
